We are delighted that the Steptics team, alumni from Batch #5 of the Start-up Certificate Accelerators, has achieved another milestone with the receipt of the EXIST start-up funding. The successful participation in the Strascheg Award, HM’s ideas competition, and the subsequent coaching within the Start-up League of HM and SCE was able to set the course for the start of the company.

The EXIST start-up grant is a funding program of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and is co-financed by the European Social Fund. The start-up teams receive a grant at attractive conditions for a period of 12 months to draw up a business plan and prepare for their business start-up with the support of their university or research institution.

Team steptics, consisting of Ben Els, Daniel Kun and Toni Padilla, uses a patented, industrialized, and automated production process to reduce the manufacturing costs of high-performance foot prostheses to give amputees worldwide access to maximum mobility. In addition, the prostheses can be tailored to the specific requirements of the patient through an individualization process within the production chain.

The ideal mentor for the team was found in Prof. Dr. Erwin Steinhauser from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Mechatronics at Munich University of Applied Sciences, who has many years of experience in the medical technology industry and provides the infrastructure for a wide range of tests on the prostheses.
